Custom mosaic sandwich counter featuring the Snarf gang in bas-relief.
This year the first Snarf’s bar opened, located near the campus of DU @ 1729 East Evans in Denver, CO. Haley Arts design consulted to help create this exciting and vibrant space! You can enjoy the usual Snarf’s deliciousness along with your favorite brew in a venue that sports a hot pink bar top on one side and a bright orange sandwich counter on the other. Thank you Snarf’s for loving color and making such great food!!
This lush green dining area was inspired by murals found in old Pompeii. Color washes and surface sanding add some aged character to the painting.
This soft green mural greets patients in the exam room area of Ascent Dental in Cherry Creek, CO. The calming outdoor scene relaxes as Ralph Waldo Emerson inspires.
Glass tile and stained glass are used to great effect in this striking rainbow lionfish mosaic. The stained glass provides a wonderful visual texture inherently.
Snarf’s second location in Longmont, CO opened this year on Mt. View next to the hospital. The redesign of this space included leaving an existing floor & adding Snarf’s signature bold colors to the walls! We collaborated on a unique counter wall that combines a steely dotted field tile with a fun striped, custom fabricated glass tile border. The place really pops!!
Set near the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Colorado Mills is one of our all time favorite projects! The 3 large scale exterior panels are 10′ x 13′ and made of glazed and unglazed (cut and broken) porcelain tile. The aspen scenes are based on design concepts by Communication Arts, Boulder. These pieces are a great visual read at a distance and continue to engage and interest you with detail as you come closer. The aspen trunks and their watchful eyes are especially well loved by all. If you want to see them in person, these mosaics are located at Entry 4 near the food court and outside of the Eddie Bauer outlet, around back.
In May of 2010, Nashville experienced some historic floods. The Cumberland river spilled over it’s banks and deluged the mall. Everything was destroyed, including our mosaics. The mall has since been rebuilt and is in the process of reopening as of this post, however the new mall has little if any of the artwork the original mall design had. Too bad. Oh well, this is a classic example of the impermanence of what we all do – it’s ok, it how things are…
the boat is where the river should be.

When Simi Valley Town Center was being designed, it was important to protect the 2 live coastal oak trees on the site. Communication Arts in Boulder designed these beautiful benches to go around each tree – custom ceramic mosaics with tiles that feature local birds and plants are the bench backs. The same design is repeated in 2 colorways.
Snarf’s first location in Chicago @ 600 W. Chicago Ave is bright blast of delicious color in a dark historic warehouse on the river! Our highly charged color scheme works especially well in this industrial urban setting. Greeting you in the lobby, in front of the restaurant is a custom glass mosaic mural of the Snarf people against the Chicago skyline – the mosaic was essentially prefabricated and installed easily and quickly once in the windy city! This might be our favorite Snarf’s so far…
Shoe Fly is fashion forward, hip little shoe store @ 947 Pearl St. in Boulder, CO. Together we transformed a drab space into a jewel box of a store - successfully integrating the fun interior with an historic exterior street-scape. Rich purple & red accented with a metallic pewter make up the paint palette and a vibrant, original and graphic mosaic mirror and jewelry case create a gorgeous focal point that draws the eye through the store toward the back.
What a cool thing to get to help out 2 renowned Boulder artists on one of their projects! We installed many hand-painted tiles for Maria Neary on a bridge and helped paint columns with Ken Bernstein, in the creek under the same bridge. Good times & good job Maria & Ken!
Snarf’s Spire opened early 2011 and is the 2nd location in downtown Denver, CO. Right across the street from the Denver Convention Center, this Snarf’s is on the ground floor of the Spire, one of Denver’s newer high rise buildings. We built a floor to ceiling mosaic around a column front and center in the sandwich counter. This was our first mosaic incorporating sculptural elements – it really pops!
The Academy in Boulder CO is a boutique retirement community on ‘the hill’. Comprised of historic buildings and newer additions, the pool and spa were a new addition that opened in 2010. A beautiful stylized grasses mosaic reflects the Academy’s logo art in the spa & faux painted ceiling beams match the marble clad walls. We also helped out in the library when painted window frames needed to look like the cherry that surrounds them!
